What is and how important is the Leptospirosis vaccine?
Leptospirosis is a potentially deadly bacterial disease spread if your dog comes in contact with the urine or bite of an infected animal (wild or domesticated). I spayed a wonderful Bernedoodle (Buttercup) because she reacted to the Leptospirosis vaccine. Even though she was an amazing dog (and I cried for weeks), I gave her to a family of doctors because I knew they would not be afraid of and know how to handle her reaction. (They did pay for her tummy tack surgery.)
Our vet said she probably would not pass it on to any future puppies but I didn’t want to take that chance. We live in Oklahoma where we have squirrel, raccoon, skunk, armadillo, bobcat, coyote, etc. just 15 minutes away from Oklahoma City. The vaccine is important for us.
